We enter the new year in style as we announce Mala joining the first Black Rhino Residency at Control on February 22, 2025.
The architect behind 2024's Best British Label, Deep Medi Musik, returns to Bucharest after his last visit in 2017 at the Time Shift Festival at the stage curated by Black Rhino. This time, Mala comes to play a club gig where the sound is amplified by Riddim Bandits Sound System, creating the perfect setup for a bass music night.
Opening the night is local bass music veteran WRK, followed by D-FUZE for the close set.
MALA [UK]
Born and raised in South Norwood, South London, Mala has played a pioneering role in UK music since the turn of the century. Stirring dubstep’s musical melting pot with its most primal ingredients before it even had a name, Mala was a founding member of DMZ, the crew behind some of modern bass music’s most influential dances and the most highly prized 12s the movement has ever known. Almost 20 years later, his ideas and his creations continue to influence, push and fuse contemporary electronic music to unchartered places.
WRK
WRK is a founding member of the oldest group of promoters and DJs from Târgu Mureș (Romania), LBC Kru. Alongside them, he was responsible for organizing the first electronic music parties in his hometown and later, in the early 2000s, the event series "Fundamental Breaks" that brought to the city the most renowned drum & bass and breakbeat DJs from all over the country at the time. He started DJing in 2003, and after getting a residency in the local club Avi-Cola, played warm-up and after sets with Rapala for a series of exclusive nights promoting all varieties of broken beats. Ever since, he's been an active movement member, mainly playing bass-heavy music, from deeper dubstep to the more forward-thinking electronic beats and occasionally old-school 2-step / garage.
D-FUZE
Hailing from Giurgiu, D-Fuze is a multifaceted artist deeply passionate about DJing, music production, and sound systems. His musical journey started in 2009. Later, in 2015, he teamed up with his friends to establish the project Sub Giurgiu, which was created to promote and celebrate sound system culture. Over time, he became a dedicated dubplate collector, and his musical roots span bass, reggae, and hip-hop. His mixes are a captivating fusion of influences, effortlessly shifting between atmospheric, deep-militant elements and the powerful dark tones of dubstep, grime, and dub, transforming the dance floor into a mysterious landscape.
