The 18th instalment of Black Rhino Residency at Control comes in full force on April 19, mixing the sound pressure of dub with the uptempo energy of jungle music.

This session, we will witness a mix of Bristol vibes represented by Gorgon Sound with Rider Shafique on the microphone and the London sound with Tim Reaper going shoulder to shoulder with Blackeye MC. This is one for the books, as both crews come to Romania for the first time in this formula.

Gorgon Sound is a sound system reggae project made up of infamous producers and selectors Kahn & Neek. Hailing from Bristol U.K, their sound is firmly rooted in the city's famous heritage of sound system music, while at the same time fusing it with their own unique, bass-heavy style.

Gorgon Sound is a strictly dubplate and vinyl operation, closely following and respecting the culture of roots and reggae music.

The acclaimed debut Gorgon Sound release, Find Jah Way, was released on Peng Sound Records, and was closely followed by a self-titled EP, both of them inspiring many versions and remixes (most notably those of key-collaborator and previous Black Rhino Residency guest, Dubkasm).

Joining Gorgon Sound on the microphone on this special occasion is lyricist, poet, MC and recording artist Rider Shafique.

A prolific and versatile MC at both live events and recording, with countless features across Drum & Bass, Dubstep, Dub & Dancehall, Rider Shafique lends his lyrics & flow to producers & labels in Bass music including; Critical Music, Shogun Audio, Deep Medi, Playaz, Born on Road, Young Echo, Navy Cut, Sam Binga, Om Unit, Kahn, J.Sparrow, Sub Zero, VROMM, QZB, Selecta J-Man & more.

Across those releases, though immediately recognisable as Rider Shafique, his style can vary massively, whether it’s a spoken word passage laid over minimalist dubstep, or a waist winding, repeating vocal over a dancehall track.

Tim Reaper is regarded as one of the key figures in the revival of jungle music between the late 2010s and early 2020s. His label, Future Retro London, originally conceived as a night club, won the Breakthrough Label award at DJ Mag’s 2021 Best of British awards.

Until recently, Tim Reaper, real name Edem Alloh, was a web programmer by day and only produced by night. He found out about jungle and drum and bass when he bought a copy of Mixmag magazine for a high school assignment and listened to the Andy C CD that came with it.

Since then, he’s been fascinated with the sound and has built a trailblazing and highly impactful career as a producer, label head, and DJ. Both his productions and his sets push the boundaries of both BPM and precision, tickling the brain and the body alike.

Accompanying Tim Reaper on the night will be Blackeye MC.

Heavily influenced by hip hop, pop, funk, soul, jazz and reggae and dub, Blackeye uses his knowledge of music to craft his art. Inclined to deliver his deep vocals, not on top of the music as a major focal point, but with a complimentary approach, Blackeye exudes presence enough to touch the music with his deep, soulful tones.

It’s not the first time Black Rhino and Club Control welcome the skilful, experienced MC, as in 2022 he joined Rupture London co-founders Mantra and Double O for their legendary sets at the residency in Room 1. He’s proven then that he is a respectable and dependable artist who can enhance any set he hosts, so make sure to not miss his return!
