Animest Is Celebrating Its 18th Edition with a Marathon of Adults-Only Events

The Animest International Animation Film Festival brings something special beyond young audience oriented events, films for the entire family, or industry events. During October 6-15, our most daring adult audiences are in for a few white nights dedicated to animation: extravagantly gory narratives, bizarre shorts, musical explorations, and plain ol’ sexy times. Trippy Animation Night returns with the oddest cinematic experiments yet, Creepy Animation Night is bringing scary back to the silver screen, Animusic Night will host the biggest party-in-a-cinema ever, while Erotica – The Night of Erotic Animation promises to take you out of your comfort zone.

Get your tickets for Animest.18 special events starting today, on the Eventbook platform.

Trippy Animation Night: Saturday, October 7, 11 PM, Eforie Cinematheque

Dutch artist and collector Michael Helmerhorst is back with the most daring selection ever presented in the history of our festival: a series of bizarre animations collected from rare, exclusive archives.

“Prepare for boarding. We’re all going on a psychotronic journey to the fourth dimension!”, the curator gleefully informs spectators who will join him late into the night, to enjoy a unique collection of lost and found footage, forgotten fairy tales and eccentric collages. Considering coming? Do – this is probably the only time these short films will be screened at the cinema in Romania. Get your tickets here.

Erotica – The Night of Erotic Animation Vol. 3: Tuesday, October 10, 11 PM, Eforie Cinematheque

The animated night of unfettered fantasies promises an electrifying selection of explicit tales of sexual diversity, passion, sex and sexual pleasure, the relationship with our own bodies, and carnal love. Curated by Jakub Spevák, Artistic Director of Fest Anča – Slovakia's largest event dedicated to animated film – this collection is specifically for you curious adults. Yes, you know who you are! Tickets right here.

Animusic Night: Thursday, October 12, 9 PM, Eforie Cinematheque

Join the Dance! for our evening celebrating the best animated music videos of the year. In keeping with the theme of Animest.18, the special screening will be spiced up by a magnetic drag show by Vergine Santa Frida, before we all move to the cinematheque entryway for an atypical birthday party.

Sijia Luo, winner of the last year’s Animusic section, will be on the jury this year, alongside electronic music producer and visual artist Benjamin Efrati, our special guest from France, and Teodora Vamvu, Online Content Manager Radio Guerrilla – Animest’s main media partner. Tickets here.

Creepy Animation Night – Freqax visuals Grotesk Live Act: Friday, October 13, 11 PM, Luceafărul Room (formerly Cinema Pro)

Eerily lit by a lone projector’s beaming light, the most terrifying creatures you can imagine will come to life to freely wander around the cinema. Your fears will slither from under your seat, your very blood will freeze in your veins, and everything around you will become impossibly grotesque in the small hours. Does that appeal? Thrill-seekers, prepare to get fully immersed in the horror films in this year’s Creepy Animation Night selection! And, in-between screenings, venture into the foyer to enjoy a Freqax visuals Grotesk live act – if you dare… Tickets heeeeereee.
