DVS1's standing as one of the globe's most admired DJs and a leading advocate for the true essence of club culture is grounded in his profound love for music, respect for the art, and experiences in the '90s Midwestern American rave scene.
Born in 1976 in St. Petersburg, Russia, Zak Khutoretsky later relocated to the USA, alternating between New York City and Minneapolis. Starting at 18, he began throwing underground parties in 'unofficial' warehouses around the city. He went on to open his own club in Minneapolis and managed HUSH Studios and HUSH sound, paving the first steps for his music career. Khutoretsky is a dedicated vinyl collector with a massive 30,000-record collection and has released music on Ben Klock’s influential Klockworks, HUSH, and Mistress Recordings. In 2022, he introduced Aslice, a platform seeking to bridge the disparity in fees and streaming earnings for artists.
Khutoretsky credits eight years of piano lessons and synthesizer-based radio music as his earliest musical influences. His DJ sets honour his roots while demonstrating versatility, sensitivity and a keen understanding of what moves people on the dancefloor. Having dedicated years to pushing the boundaries of sound in renowned clubbing institutions like Berghain/Panorama Bar—where he's one of the few residents capable of handling both floors—DVS1 has carved out a reputation of delivering an experience that is nothing less but unforgettable.
